Only for SERIOUS Producers - Sell Beats Online
I was just reading a post on a hip hop music forum. There is a guy that is telling everyone the "secrets" to "selling hundreds of beats" online. He says he makes "thousands of dollars" a week. He will sell these beats for $25, INSTEAD of $50...(not really a big difference between pimping yourself for $25 and $50)...
Now there are various sites that facilitate the online selling of beats. On these sites, many "beat makers" are selling beats for $50 or less. These are beats that came from the "beat makers" own heads, and in a world where a good song can go for THOUSANDS of dollars PLUS royalties...these "kids" are REALLY "pimping" themselves out (as I stated on that forum).
I would like to point out that, on these "sites where you can sell your beats", there is a gimmick of sorts, that makes the site appeal MOSTLY to the "beat maker", aka, the "seller", and not so much, the buyer. Think about it...your beat really isn't that good, or else you wouldn't be willing to "give your beat away" for a mere $25. On top of that, YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE online trying to sell beats, and make a buck. Having said that, you must realize that the site is making most of its money off of YOU, and not the artist that is BUYING the beats.
You will go to people that you think are interested, and you will give them your little link to the site that your beats are on, hoping that they will buy something from you. That's all good...if you actually do make a sell, but let's look at it as an "internet marketing technique."
You take your personal link to the site, and put it on your Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, Soundclick, etc. What did you ACTUALLY do? You just gave the owner of the website FREE traffic. You MIGHT get a sale out of all that promotion, BUT what the owner is BANKING ON, is the fact that you will attract other people wanting to SELL BEATS on HIS SITE. He gets more members, and more potential revenue from potential sales, PLUS added income from when you/they click on his Adsense ads he has plastered everywhere...
All in all, selling your beats for like...3 crappy, rusty lil nickles, is a STUPID thing to do, UNLESS you're SOOOOOOOOOO good that you can make GOOD beats in your sleep, and if you think stuff like "Swag On" is "hot", and nothing more than a FAD then, you aren't that serious about this. You should quit now, and go to school to be a medical assistant.

But if you ARE serious, what you need to do, SERIOUSLY, is purchase this kit that has industry CONTRACTS, and conTACTS, and even some seriously HOT industry sounds.
